Delivery of Subpoenas

Subpoenas have always been a labour intensive and low priority item. We have trained several volunteers from our Community Policing Offices (CPO) to deliver these. The CPO volunteers now receive the subpoenas for their area and make three attempts to contact the subjects by phone. If contacted they request the person attend the CPO and pick up their subpoena. Once served the subject signs a copy of the subpoena acknowledging receipt and the volunteer completes an affidavit of service, similar to ours. Prior to implementing this process we spoke to and obtained consent of Crown Counsel to ensure the legality of the program.

Benefits/Value Added

This program will allow for better use of our police resources by having the members concentrate on more important investigations.
